LAD/Blog #12: Seneca Falls Declaration of Sentiments

The democratic principles listed in the beginning of the document, are all men and women are entitled to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Women wanted the right to be able to overthrow the government, and that they should have a say in laws being passed. They also complained men took the money they earned and told them to stay at home. Also many colleges denied women their education. Some notable names that signed it were Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucretia Mott, and Edward F. Underhill, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Harriet Cady Stanton. Someone who did not sign it was Susan B. Anthony, which is strange because she was a huge supporter of women's rights.

Declaration of Sentiments are similar, in that
each expressed grievances they wanted reformed.

The Executive Order 9066 was brought into effect After Pearl Harbor. Because of the horrible attack on Pearl Harbor, the American people became very cautious and concerned with the Japanese Americans. This was mainly fear that was related to people believing or thinking that the Japanese people who lived in Americas could be spies. Due to this fear, executive order 9066 was put in place. This order, allowed for the creation of military zones, in which the Japanese Americans were forced to move there. This action, isolated the Japanese people from the rest of America. These camps held over 120,000 innocent Japanese people. FDR gave his secretary of war, the power to enforce this order. This was similar to the Dawes Act, which allowed for the forceful relocation of Native Americans to Reservations.

LAD/Blog #29: Clayton Anti-Trust Act

The Sherman Anti-trust act was similar to the Clayton Anti-trust act, in that it prohibited bug business, but it also prohibited labor unions. This act was passed by Woodrow Wilson in 1914. Before, the government had been far to lenient with big businesses. This act was a response to the failure of the Sherman anti-Trust act. This act prohibited companies from making exclusive contracts, rebates, inter-corporate stock holdings, and price cutting. However the difference between this act and the Sherman Anti-trust act, was that this one no longer restricted labor unions. Instead of prohibiting unions, it protected the workers rights, which made it more successful.

LAD/Blog #33: Kellogg-Briand Peace Pact

Kellogg-Briand Peace Pact was also known as the Pact of Paris. This treaty was signed by the United States, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, France, and other countries. This treaty stated that if any of the countries were to go to war for national benefit, than they would be denied the benefits of the pact. There was also hope that the countries who didn't initially sign the pact, would follow their example and eventually join the treaty. After a year had passe around forty more countries had joined the pact. The United States was held responsible for keeping the original treaty, and adding new members to it. Similar to this treaty was the Treaty of Versailles, which was also created to make peace.
