FDR declared war on December 8th, 1941, the day ofter Pearl Harbor. He began his speech, speaking of the atrocity the bombing of pearl harbor. He states that it is a "a day which will live in infamy".He then says how America originally intended to stay out of conflict but with this attack, America couldn't stand by. He then goes on to explain that the Japanese have gotten out of control and become hostile towards America. He then says how America will need to defend itself. The vote to go to war was almost unanimous, but one lady; Jeanette Rankin voted against it. she was later nicknamed Japanette Rankin because of it.
